Red Fort History

The Red Fort was the royal residence of the Mughals from 1648 to 1857 for 200 years. This red fort was built in 1648 to imitate the Salim Garh fort which is built by Islam Shah Suri. By the way, let me tell you that the original name of Red Fort was Qila-E-Mubarak. And Red Fort was previously white-coloured. When its white stones started to deteriorate, the British government got it painted red chemical. And named it Red Fort. And started calling it the Lal Qila in Hindi.
Shah Jahan lived here for 10 years and then moved to Agra. After that, this red fort became Aurangzeb’s. And Aurangzeb also built many palaces and mosques here. In such a situation many kings came here and kept changing the Red Fort according to themselves. The last king was Bahadur Shah II who fought with the British government. In this war, Bahadur Shah was defeated and the British government captured the Red Fort.
The British looted all the jewels and weapons kept in the Red Fort. During the war, the British caused considerable damage to the Red Fort. Cannons and bullet prints can still be seen here. It eventually became a purely Indian heritage after the British government left.
In 2007, UNESCO, knowing the history of the Red Fort and realizing its importance, had converted it to the World Heritage Site.
