Hawa Mahal was built in 1799 by King Sawai Pratap Singh. Before this, a palace called Hawa Mahal is located in Jhunjhunun, Rajasthan. After seeing this palace, King Sawai Pratap Singh thought of building the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur too. Its designer was Ustad Lalchand.
